I am planning to write a short summary of hash-based signatures and what was done so far at some point. Currently I am maintaining a commented list of papers related to the topic. Until I managed to write my own summary here, I suggest the survey paper by Buchmann, Dahmen, and Szydlo (2009) or my phd thesis as starting points to the topic. The first one focuses more on algorithmic aspects while the latter puts an emphasis on the security of the constructions.
